Integrated Motor Drive System

Innovation For Variable Speed Applications
Integrated Motor Drive System (IMDS)

By successfully combining design engineering expertise, exceptional quality and on-time delivery, Bluffton Motor Works introduces a revolutionary new development in variable speed drives. The IMDS joins an AC induction motor with state-of the-art electronic inverter speed controls providing the perfect combination for a variety of pumping, metering, material handling, packaging, air moving, mixing/stirring, food processing and other applications where variable speed is desired.

With IMDS you are guaranteed the motor and drive are perfectly matched and ready to use, without additional programming or complicated wiring to perform. The IMDS comes with many features to customize the unit to your application, but is ready to use right out of the box.

Integrated Motor Drive System

The IMDS features an integrated touchpad to control its operations. Start and stop buttons control power to the motor. Arrow keys control speed, even while operating. A connector allows a speed control signal to the unit. Available inputs include 4-20mA, 0-5VDC, 0-10VDC and a potentiometer. The IMDS is equipped with a variety of user programmable functions, including direction of rotation, level of torque boost, timed operation, minimum and maximum speed, acceleration and deceleration time, automatic restart and volts to hertz ratio (based on specific applications.)

Lower Installation Cost:

Right out of the box, IMDS will save you time and money. Installation is fast and easy because all the complex wiring between the motor and drive is performed at our factory. And IMDS is factory programmed, further reducing setup time and eliminating chances for error.

Ease of Operation:

Most variable speed applications don’t use all the functions typically found in stand alone drives. With Bluffton’s IMDS and its preset factory programming, you are up and running immediately. The interface is so intuitive that our instruction manual is only one page long. Not hundreds of pages like the typical AC drive manual. As a result, your operators spend their time manufacturing products not training. And best of all, you don’t pay for features you don’t use (and probably don’t need).

Electrical Reliability:

With IMDS, you are guaranteed the motor and drive are a perfect match. And by integrating the motor and drive into a single unit, we eliminated the historical AC motor failures due to voltage spikes and line voltage reflections (also known as standing wave or voltage ring-up). It’s also significantly quieter than a traditional AC motor driven by an inverter.
Mechanical Reliability:
Also, unlike mechanical or DC variable speed options, with IMDS there are no belts, brushes, or other parts to wear out and replace.

Package Size:

The 1 horsepower IMDS unit measures 11.9” X 6.5” X 9.0”. Compare that footprint to that of a separate motor, drive, and mounting cabinet. Or to a mechanical belt and pulley configuration. The IMDS compact size makes retrofits to existing applications easy.
